Everyone has the option to help make their lives better. This can include monetary item, and healthier choices. From my experience to make my life better I choose food and working towards providing enough food for a family of 3 on only an acre. This not only assists with less cost outwards and healthier options for your whole family.
Initial Cost
This all depends on what you have, if you have a freezer that is great. You will most likely need a chest freezer. You will also need a cool, dry, and dark space to keep all of your canned goods. The initial input of cost will outweigh the long time savings that you will receive. This is not only a money saving strategy but a healthier living style for your family. New jars will be about $1 per jar, you will need seeds, compost, fencing, a pasture for animals, space an axe and food for your animals.
Canning-
Proper canning... you should look and research before you can. this is not only to make sure that you are doing it correctly but safely. I look at ball canning, They not only produce the jars but have a webpage and books to assist with canning. They are also on facebook. It is imperative that you are following exactly what they advise in a recipe. If you do not, you stand to have food rot.
You may use and re use canning jars. Purchase good jars to start and you should also purchase canning lids. The initial purchase should come with lids, you may re use the jars but you should stock up on lids as they should not be re used. New lids are needed to create a good seal. A 12 count of new jars is on average $12, that is a dollar a jar!!!
You can can a lot of things, fruit, veggies and meat. if you take the time to can you can have a supply of fruit and veggies as well as meat throughout the year without freezing or buying food. It is a great weekend project, collect everything together and spend the day canning. You will be surprised how much you can accomplish!!
Building a great looking website
has never been so easy.
I have trusted the Farmers Almanac for many many years. I have not only trusted it to plan events but to work out my planting schedule. I purchase it each year and also access their website http://farmersalmanac.com/
This website is something that is based on farmers' knowledge and lets face it... they can figure out when to cut hay, straw and silage. This book has been correct for every function and for all of my planting I have done.
